US-Turkish Activist Aysenur Eygi Killed by Israeli Forces During West Bank Protest

 

A Turkish-American woman, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, was fatally shot by Israeli forces during an anti-settlement protest in the West Bank





A 26-year-old U.S.-Turkish woman, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, was shot dead on Friday during a protest in the occupied West Bank. She was participating in a demonstration against the expansion of Jewish settlements in Beita, near Nablus. Israeli forces reportedly opened fire during the protest, and Eygi,


 who was a first-time participant with the International Solidarity Movement, was killed. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated they were investigating reports that a foreign national had been killed in the area




Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was participating in a protest against the expansion of Jewish settlements in Beita, a town in the occupied West Bank. Eygi, a dual U.S.-Turkish national, was part of a demonstration when Israeli forces reportedly opened fire, leading to her death​



U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed sorrow over the "tragic loss" of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the Israeli actions "barbaric."


 Turkey's foreign ministry confirmed that Ms. Eygi was "killed by Israeli occupation soldiers" in Nablus. The White House refrained from attributing blame but urged Israel to investigate. 


U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller added that Washington was gathering more information regarding the incident.

Eygi, born in Antalya, was rushed to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus after being shot in the head. Dr. Fouad Nafaa, 


the hospital's head, confirmed that she died from the gunshot wound. Eyewitness Jonathan Pollak, an Israeli activist, 


recalled hearing two live shots and finding Eygi bleeding by a tree. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital​
